Buddy Hield joins the Sixers in a deal with the Pacers

The Philadelphia 76ers are looking to improve their squad as star centre Joel Embiid recovers. According to various sources, the Sixers are trading for Pacers sharpshooter Buddy Hield, sending Marcus Morris, Furkan Korkmaz, and three second-round selections to Indiana.

Sixers get:

  • Buddy Hield

Pacers get:

  • Furkan Korkmaz
  • Marcus Morris
  • 2024 second-round pick (via Raptors)
  • 2029 second-round pick (via LA Clippers)
  • 2029 second-round pick (via Blazers)
  • Cash considerations

What the move means: Philadelphia has been in a tailspin since losing Embiid to a left meniscus tear on January 30. Overall, the Sixers have lost seven of their last eight games, and Embiid will be absent for at least the next four weeks as he recovers from surgery.

Adding Hield will not solve any of Philadelphia’s frontcourt difficulties while the centre is out, but it will provide the Eagles with an extra perimeter scorer and 3-point threat for the stretch run and playoffs. Hield is 15th in the NBA in 3-pointers made (137), despite seeing his minutes and role with the Pacers drop this season.

Hield’s Resume: Hield, who has been one of the top 3-point shooters in his career, averages 12 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game for the Pacers. Last season, he appeared in 80 of 82 games and averaged 16.8 points, 5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.2 steals.

He made a franchise-record 288 3-pointers and shot 42.5% from 3-point range, ranking second in the NBA in 3-pointers made and tenth overall.
