A winter storm is anticipated to bring substantial snowfall to parts of the Northeast late Monday night and Tuesday. A southward adjustment in the storm’s track will place New York City in the path of plowable snow.
With accumulations of up to a half-foot or more, this could be the first “big” snow event in the major Apple since January 2022.
This storm is the same system that impacted the Southeast on Monday, putting millions of people at risk of severe weather, including tornadoes and flash flooding, before moving northeast, where it will exit the East Coast in the mid-Atlantic and quickly strengthen south of New England on Tuesday.
According to National Weather Service forecast maps, the storm will make an impact early Tuesday morning, followed by persistent snowfall throughout the afternoon.
“The New York City area is still a tough forecast; the heaviest snow appears to be northwest of the city,” National Weather Service lead forecaster Bob Oravec stated. “The city itself may yet receive significant snow, it is not a 100% confident forecast.”
